30/7/08 Dinner @ Angie' s house.

I was invited together with the other 3 teachers, to my students house for dinner.
His house is humongous! Its like a 4/5 story house! (: Very unique looking. Its like a old museum heritage house. It has alot of Chinese statues eg, jade , crystals.I guess in Vietnam if you own the house of that size, your considered filthy rich! The dinner was scrumptious! We had shrimps wrapped with fried coconut, meat skews, and sticky rice. The food tasted very much Chinese I must say, with a little bit of Vietnamese wine, (HORRIBLE, I nearly puked, they still can ask me to bottoms up"). I just maintained with that one glass the whole night. The family was very welcoming. I really enjoyed their company. The granny's so cute. I have a fetish for cute old people, I just don't know why. Before leaving the house the mum gave me a present.

FULL DAY TRIP TO ASEAN RESORT
The trip started off at about 7am, when the students came over to RV!Center (My Dinh) to assemble. The trip was about an hour to ASEAN Resort. The first activity was swimming, followed by lunch then free and easy time.For lunch we had the Vietnamese spring rolls. It came with a sheet of plastic ( I had no clue it was edible). Apparently thats like rice paper. HAHA (:

It was an awesome experience to get to know the students better.
After resting, we had 3 activities. 1. Bike riding (double bikes) my partner was "dat" his very adorable. 2. grass skiing 3. Riding a buggy- thing down a slope. The day was perfect and I took alot of photos that will help us with the first newsletter issue.

the weather was a killer- soo HOTT.

WEEKEND AT HUAN HIM

We had good food just for the weekend (:
Met Eileen, Faiz & Geraldine at Huan Kim at about 12.30pm. Had pizza for lunch.We were suppose to catch the WATER-PUPPET SHOW but the tickets were SOLD OUT! so I guess we will catch the show next week.
Walked around to help Eileen search for Cotton. We really could not find Cotton! After searching for long, we decided to just buy a pillow to es tract the cotton. Eileen also said shes going to knit me a scarf, YAY! So I hand picked the 3 colours, and paid a total of about $6.00 for 3 bundles. Its considered really cheap compared to the ones back home which cost about $15/ bundle. I picked pink, green and black.
I really want to get paintings for my room. So we walked around alot to search for my paintings, and my Dads. My Dad's really particular, He is looking for a 90X80 landscape, oil painting. It has to be a half body painting of a traditional Chinese or Vietnamese lady.The details on her costume must be fine art. Finally I found paintings that I really like! I bought 3 for $15 USD each. They will only be ready on 22nd Aug! Cant wait! Its customized paintings, hence it will take awhile. My first official shopping since the time I stayed in Hanoi. Faiz, Geraldine & Eileen all got themselves paintings as well (:

It was an awesome well spend night! We left My Dinh at got all dressed to PARTY at Merlia Hotel! It a 5 star hotel,with live Filipino bands and vocalist. On 25 July,It was a Harley Davidson Party Night. Our supervisor Dyhna took part in a limbo competition and came in first! She won a free 1 night stay accommodation at Merlia , with additional buffet treats.It was my best night in Hanoi! Thank you Dyhna, Marcial & Daniel for taking us out. We are thankful to be your interns (:

Huan kim lake is the most popular place where the tourist hang out. There is a beautiful park, nice resturants and the night market! There are twon food places that we go to eat at most of the time, The newest discovery is the "PAPA JOES" resturant. the foods awesome, Its only like $5.50 for a set meal, which includes cabonara, ice cream and a soup. Its only on weekends that we enjoy good food as we live 45 mintues away form the city.In the night market there are pleny of eye-catchy shops! But this particular shop caught my attention.Its a shop with hundreds of DOLLS made out of PING-PONG BALLS. (: it COST ABOUT 10,000 DONG which is about $.010 cents. You can even pick your own unique designs. Its attractive but its so not my type (:

It is too dusty here! I think when I come back to Singapore my immune system would have improved alot! Its really common that ppl wear a mask here. So its TOTALLY NOT WEIRD.

I wear it for two reasons honestly, 1. beacuse of the dust! 2. To cover my face as well.Its obvious that I am a foreigner! Hence, I would not want to be a prime target for being robbed. So its just a form of pre-caution as well, (:

Today while walking for lunch with ting ting, a guy on the motor-cycle flashed his D%!k. Damn sick!*FAINTS* Really spoiled my mood. I felt like walking back to the centre after that scene.No mood or appetite to eat despite the fact I was really hungry, ): We continued our way to eat at the resturant. The food was not good today. The pork was extremely salty.I think I am becoming good at this. I eat soo such at the same resturant I can tell when the chef's different! (: I have one class later, I hope it goes well now.

1 killer lesson

I used to like the in-coming grade 6 class- till TODAY.
I actually only had one class today,
So I really worked hard to prepare the worksheets for them,
The statement I got to my face from one student was " your lesson is horrible ! "
2 Things I can Think of, 1. Its just a personal counter attack since he dint really do the worksheets. 2. My lesson was just too simple, but guess what. They dont really know simple words like grass, ferns, rambutans. It takes forever just to explain the helping words.Obviously I would think the lessons boring too. Oh, how am I suppose to make the lessons harder? if its too easy ,than answering my worksheets would be easy! But they can't answer for nuts. I really dont get the students here sometimes. Some are just heartless and too straightforward.
I'll sure miss a handfull though when I get ready to come back home.

It was and boring SUNDAY. I just cleaned up a little, and washed the clothes today. I know hơ to use the washing machine! YAY! (: and yesterday, it was super funny. I had no clue on hơ to paste stamps! Is it true that you can actually use your saliva to lick the stamps? I dint' do that of course! I used water (: But I think I used too much, ): till the letter got wet. Dản .
two things that kêp me companied all the time, my 2 handphones! HÂH. *P.S mind the typo, thí keyboards set to vietnamese mode. Hence the weird fonts! I'll update with the other keyboard sôn.It took me forever just to type this. I have bên jumping rope- alot lately.

I really should set my watch! (: It's 1 hour different in Hanoi. Today, I make A BIGG MISTAKE.I was thinking about all my bimboness that dissappeared during my stay in hanoi. I had to prove myself wrong somehow. Today I went to "lomonoxop"(its a primary school right across the street from where I work. I went to the school to be an exam invigilator. This class was seating for an pre-test to qualify fo study in RV CENTRE.(the company I work for). I was told to invigilate just for a short while.One of the teacher's told me that thier paper actually end's at 10.05am.So while invigilating, I told the class they had 10 more minutes! They all looked very shocked and puzzled. I was personally thinking " warh the students damn hardworking ar, 10 more mins also kanchiong".Then after 5 mintues into saying the time left for the test, I realised they actually had 1 hour more! as i did not tune my clock to the vietnamese time,I told the class " dont worry you actually have 1 /hour more" again they gave be the shock look. I felt damn guilty. I hope I dint affect thier test results. *god make all of them pass their enterance exam to join RV CENTRE! !(:

At RV CENTRE today, there was no electricity for the whole day. Very hot! I get allergies easily.So I was sneezing the whole day. I did not know , bad electiricy affects water as well, The tap water was literally black! So after a long day, Since there was no electricity, we all decided to go out! (: We went to "doson" hotel for swimming, the enterance fees is about $4.50s.It pretty nice though, like an indoor -pool facility. Finally I am back at RV now, at the electricity is back!which explains this entry now.

This did not exactly happen today but, neon colours makes jacintha happy ! (:
On the second day, I went out for awhile. Went to big "c" for pizza.While coming back, I saw people flying kites right in the middle of the roads! neon- bright coloured kites every where in the air. The view was just amazing! Not only did we see people flying kites,but there was a funfair nearby. Dyna, ting ting and I went to the funfair for awhile. The funfair reminded me of those ancient onces prolly held back in the 1980's in Singapore with all the old rides.

Today, I met up with a group of TP students, ernest, nicholes, they just ended thier OSIP.They will be heading back to singapore tommorow. I t made me realise I still have about 7 weeks to go.They were very sweet to pay for dinner though.We ate at pizzahut at "big c".Thank you guys for the dinner. (:

It sucks, I just realised I will actually be missing soo many events. 1. NATIONAL DAY, 2. Bobby's 21 party. 3. REEF wakefest. and so many more. The list just goes on..

I should just learn to face reality. Jacintha is going to miss many events.

I really wish the clock would just stay at sunday, (: for 7 weeks till I head home.
Today is apparently my off/rest day, but i really feel sad. I dont look forward to monday at all.I ll have to prepare materials for 2 classes for tommorow.Its horrible! I dont feel like facing the 10-11am class tommorow. They just have so much of negative energy present.

yesterday, we did a whole lot of walking.The bus rides here are cheap, only $0.30. (: BUT it smells. The bus does not really stop. When its approaching the bus stop, you must actually get ready to "hop" on, or you'll just miss the bus. I think its ridiculous! If they ever thought it actually saves time.More like lazy I believe, Lazy to step on the brakes.Went to plenty of shops, but I did not buy anything yet.I'll buy stuff just before I pack.Had dinner at a resturant,I think we will be eating there quite alot now.Its pretty cheap, and there is english menu.

In most resturant's here, there is only the vietnamese menu.I have been to a couple and I did random orders.SCARY!ordering and waiting for food that your not sure about. I roughly know whats veggie,rice and chicken called. eg. veggie is something "susu" so everytime i see susu on the menu, I knoe its safe! For rice its "com".I try not to eat outside alot though, anyways I pay $15 for a week for lunch & dinner to be cooked for me to the staffs at RV CENTRE.They are vietnamse, and philipinos.So I do enjoy a variety of food.Its cheap and good.(:

I wanted you to know that you can never be replaced by anything or anyone.
I miss you, even more than you can imagine.Honeslty, I have not really stepped into a club since the time you left. Just because I feel that my- the other half is missing. It just feels very different without you. In the bus, I think alot about our past times spent together. From the awesomeee D&T classes to wednesday chicken rice, friday chicken noodles & going to school late just for apple pie (: anyways I wanted you to know I really miss you plenty ok! Takecare and I really cant wait to see you. Mr muthu told me to tell you, kusu loves you. HAHA.

Its really too dusty here! I wake up with blocked nose and a sore throat everyday. I think I should get the mask soon.For the first few days, I was popping penadols and flu medicines like they are vitamin and supplement pills.Over dosaged.

Cooking lessons.

I had my first cooking lesson today.Teacher danial taught me and ting how to cook.
His an awesome cook btw, His from the philipines.So I eat philipino dishes practically everyday.Once in awhile the care taker of the school cooks the vietnamese dishes.The care-taker lives with us.So there are a total of 5 of us staying in the school.The food I cooked was edible,but I did not enjoy how it tasted at all. My supervisor liked the food alot though.I am so used to eating people's food I dont know how to appreciate my own prolly.We cooked an ommelette,Chicken soup, and mixed pork plus chicken.Classes were ok today.I dont look forward to tommorow at all. It 4 hours of classes! I cant wait till teacher marcial get's back.I am counting down to 9 days.I
cant wait to pass back his classes back to him.My short term goal is, I look forward to the sat off this week. (:

I had a 1-1 class from 9.00-10.00am (: it was AWESOMME! its my favourite class so farr.
His name is "thai" and I teach him primary 6 science.It's a one hour class, but time passes really fast with this kid.
Then I went for lunch with the whole RV!centre crew including the ppl from phoung mai.The special occasion for lunch was, 1.Our dear eileen's birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY EILEEN! (: 2.RV!centre's welcome party for all the new intern's.Lastly the welcome party of the new teacher Micheal.We went to Raffles place to eat.Apperently its a Singaporean restaurant.The food was ok, but I encountered soo many funny incidents, I ended up giggling through out the whole lunch session.I think its really funny! The waitress here loves to serve food to your plates without you noticing! I flipped my head to talk , and when i turned back, *POOF* LIKE MAGIC she tried to sneak something onto my plate. Thankfully I was quite fast. (: The restaurant had many displays of pictures and history labels of Singapore.It made me think about home for about one sec. (:
Mr.Choo the country manager suddently brought up a topic on me cooking for him next week! Its weird how he knew I dont know how to cook, but I'll see how it goes next week.Hopefully he forgets.
After lunch I came back for my second lesson, It was ok today. The 3 students were more attentive.I was happy all the lessons were going well, until my final class. The EMS8 CLASS! its crazzy ): I felt like crying, I prepared a worksheet for them and it was too easy. I was so lost and they did not want to listern to my lesson at all.Half the time they were speaking in thier own language on purpose and I got really pissed off, I scolded them.):
Thankfully it is officially my first and last lesson with them, I told my supervisor that I was not willing to teach that class so she re-schduled my classes of me.I feel more satisfied now.I'll have to prepare more materials for classes tommorow.

First Day of Teaching.

Its the first day of teaching lessons today! The first class was HORRIBLE. ):There were 10 students.
I felt so lost, they were speaking in vietnamese half the time, it was hard to grab their attentions.I only teach 12 hours in a week though, so for today its 2 classes.
I teach grade 8 students science,I hope the lesson later will be much better.I prepared an activity/experiment for the class.Its the egg experiment,to test the density of salt and water. PRAY FOR JACINTHA.(:
thankfully the next class has only 3 students. WOOHOO.

Ting ting & I went up to "phoung mhai" to visit elieen, faiz, and geraldine.
its was and awesome airconless- taxi trip for 45 mintues from "My Dinh"(the place I leave at).I was so happy to see them! (: their house is a 4 story terrace house.Old old house,but its rather nice.They have cable T.V,totally unfair.It was our OFF day, so Mr.Ang took us out.We went toVNCOM(its their carefour).Stayed over at phoung mhai for the night, 4girls on 1 queen size bed!KFC's here taste like crapp.It comes with chicken soup & the mash potatoes substitute with rice!

Day4-06/07/08
Our first meeting with the RV centre company, and Mr William Choo,
had good lunch.BBQ korean chicken, I have been awefully sick the past few days):probably because of the dust everywhere.Motor bikes are the most common mode of transportation around.Went to "Parkson" shopping mall for awhile, and back at My dihn finally.I ll have to prepare my class Schedules for monday.

Day 1- 3 July 2008.
It was the longest awaited ever.So much for the day to finally arrive, that it was something not to look forward to anymore.Reached the airport at local time 6.15pm. (Its a 1hour time difference).First impression upon landing- "God,whens 3 Sept"
Miss Ling came to the airport to pick us up, and took us 4, to this very big 4 story- terrace house, She told me & tingting to remove our suit cases from the van, & i was quite supprised actually. As she only made 2 of us take our suitcases-OUT.1st SHOCKER, it was ONLY me & tingting that was going to stay in this house, 2nd. SHOCKER our groupmates were going to leave 45 minutes away from us, which means only seeing them every sunday during our OFF days. ):
Without a choice, we had to adapt to the situation almost instantly.The 4-story terrace is actually the RVcentre school itself.Yes, I leave in a school, the classrooms are on the 2nd story, while the rooms are on the 3rd.The staffs were very welcoming though, they cooked us a special welcome meal.(:
They left to send one of the teachers off to the airport, so I was alone with ting ting in the home/school till midnight, I was literally hopping around the whole house.SO DARK. There is only one toilet, no heater, the beds like a block of wood and the mosquitoes are my bestfriends.

*thanks corny for the cake, it was dinner, its going to be breakfast for tommorow.((:

I woke up at 8am, to start on the first class, I had to just observe 2 classes today, english & maths. The students are very adorable and AWESOMME (: today was a much better day indeed.We figured that there is actually HOT WATER in the toilet! woohoo (: i found the switch.When to pixie(its like the Giant back home)Ate ate PIZZAHUT today they should rename it FLYHUT, and tomorrow we will be meeting geraldine,faiz and elieen, Its funny we are all in Hanoi and i feel so excited to meet them, its the so near but yet so FAR feeling.Its saturday and its off day tomorrow!! (:
